Historical Venues
Duart Castle - for over 400 years, this has been the ancestral home of the Clan MacLean. Duart Castle and its grounds are open to the public from March to October. The castle is about 2 miles away from Seilisdeir. www.duartcastle.com

Torosay Castle - even closer to us than Duart Castle. Delightful castle and gardens. Both open from Easter to 31st October, then the gardens only over winter. Children's Adventure Playground within the gardens. Why not take the little steam train (Mull's only railway) from Craignure to the Castle? www.torosay.com and www.mullrail.co.uk

Iona Abbey - one of Scotland's most historic and venerated sites, Iona Abbey is a celebrated Christian centre and the burial place of early Scottish kings. In AD563 Columba and his twelve disciples landed on Iona and set about the conversion of Scotland and much of northern England to Christianity. A serene, spiritual place. The road to Iona runs right past the top of Lochdon and the trip will take you about an hour by car, small ferry and foot (no cars on Iona). www.iona.org.uk and www.isle-of-iona.com
Each of these great places to visit have guided tours, gift shops, tea rooms offering superb home made dishes using local produce (mainly grown by themselves) and fantastic views. So if walking around a castle is not "your thing" then why not simply walk or sit in the grounds, with a cup of tea and a slice of cake, and take in the lovely views. And....most importantly of all.....just relax!
Tobermory Distillery - founded in 1798, this famous, very small distillery is the only one on Mull. It produces two types of whisky - a malt and a blend. Single malts from this distillery have also been bottled by the independents under the site's older name of Ledaig. Open Easter to October for guided tours. www.tobermory.co.uk/tobermory_distillery/tobermory_whisky.htm
Fingal's Cave - on the island of Staffa, is a unique structure formed completely in hexagonally-jointed basalt - huge columns to you and me! A 227ft cavern, and a crude walkway just above high water level allow exploring visitors to venture far inside. Visit by boat and, depending upon the trip chosen, you can either see the cave from the boat, or disembark at the small jetty. Staffa is owned by the National Trust for Scotland and, at certain times of year, is home to numerous puffins. www.scotland-inverness.co.uk/staffa.htm

Golf - where better to play golf than in Scotland? Tobermory has a nine holes Par and SSS 64 course which - according to their website - has never been played to par. Can you resist the challenge? www.tobermory.co.uk/Golf/golfcourse.htm There is also a nine hole course at Craignure which is Par 69; SSS 66 www.tobermory.co.uk/Golf/Craignure.htm
Hill Walking/Mountain Climbing - visit www.munromagic.com to find out full details of all Mull's hills including Ben More at 966m and Dun da Ghaoithe - a Corbett of 766m. Dun da Ghaoithe is walkable from Seilisdeir.

Killiechronan provides the very best of unlimited riding country with breathtaking scenery. Sure footed ponies will take you away into the hills to experience spectacular mountain views. Two miles from Salen, Killiechronan is just a half hour's drive from Seilisdeir. www.mullponytrekking.co.uk

Arty Things
An Tobar - Mull's Art Centre based in the refurbished Victorian primary school overlooking Tobermory Bay. It has a dedicated gallery, a 50 seater performance space, cafe, shop and workshop area. www.antobar.co.uk
Mull Theatre - one of Scotland's foremost touring theatre companies - they are aiming to move into a brand new, purpose built theatre just outside Tobermory in Spring 2008. www.mulltheatre.com
Calgary Art in Nature - set up in 1999, it's aim was to site pieces of sculpture within the woodland at Calgary to provoke and enlighten a general awareness of art in nature. What this means in practice is, as you walk through the woods, you will see wooden carvings, beautifully made ironwork sculptures of birds, owls carved into the wood of a branch and a bench with intricate carving on which to just sit and reflect on the stunning view that is Calgary Bay. www.calgaryartinnature.co.uk
Mull Pottery - make high-fired, hand-thrown ceramics. Watch a wide range of pots being produced - or try your hand at throwing and painting your own. www.mullpottery.com/index.htm

Eating Out
There are many different places to eat on Mull, from relaxed pub meals with dogs and the kids, to posh restaurants. As different people like different things, we have refrained from recommending places to eat but, instead, have gathered a large array of leaflets for many eateries and these will be available for you in the house. Also our guests are free to recommend any particular favourites (or not!) in our Guest Book and these comments will be available for you to read should you decide to stay with us.
